The first of Tadao Nagahama’s Robot Romance Trilogy, “Choudenji Robo Combattler V” paved the way for Voltes V and Daimos. The show aired from 1976 to 1977 by Toei and Nippon Sunrise. The opening song is by Mizuki Ichirou aka “Aniki” and is one of his more recognizable songs of the Super Robot genre. I actually had not had the opportunity to watch this show when I was younger but for many others this was their entry to combining robots. It was preceded by Reideen another work by Tadao Nagahama however it did not have the combining robot concept. Nagahama-san actually insisted to do Combattler V instead of continuing Reideen.
