Kaoru: I want to see him… At any cost.
Misao: Answer one question for me… You know Himura is challenging himself in a battle to determine the future of Japan, right?
Kaoru: Yes
Misao: You also know that being half-assed about this is dangerous to you and to Himura, right? But you still want to see Himura?
Kaoru: If you were me, would you travel all this way from Tokyo to see someone if you were being half-assed about it?
Misao (remembers Aoshi): I will take these two to where Himura is. Tell me where Himura is now.
Episode 41: The Ultimate Technique of the Hiten-Mitsurugi Style Reunion with a Mentor, Seijuro Hiko
Fantastic scene! Now that I’ve identified this cel, I can never let it go! I feel like this was such a defining moment for Kaoru! She is now in Kyoto looking for Kenshin and here Misao challenges her sincerity, but Kaoru determined and true to her feelings found a kindred soul in Misao. Unlike in episode 30 where Kaoru could do nothing but cry when Kenshin leaves, very similar to the time when she could not ask her father to stay… Here Kaoru finds the courage to do something about it. I really love women like Kaoru, they are not perfect but learning from their past mistakes they surpass themselves for the people they love. The person I bought this from told me that this was their pride and joy, I definitely agree. 🙂 BTW, thanks to safetygirl for the episode ID!
