Episode 41: The Ultimate Technique of the Hiten-Mitsurugi Style Reunion with a Mentor, Seijuro Hiko
I’ve wanted this cel for years, maybe a bit over 10 years? I like cels that depict relationships and in Rurouni Kenshin, one of the most important relationships that Kenshin has is with his master, the superhuman Hiko Seijuro. Here you can see a feisty young Kenshin hitting his master for not understanding and getting involved in the troubles of the world. Hiko for all his strength refuses to be dragged into the world’s problems but Kenshin who has such a pure heart cannot bear the world he sees and strikes out on his own.
The cel and the sketch is of course original, however as you can see the background and foreground are not matching. The background waterfall and foreground stone ledge was commissioned to try to match the scene. It’s pretty nice overall and completes the scene well. Pretty expensive cel but oh so worth it.
