Maritime Lesson

Shindou:
“So there you have it Chief. This is somehow connected to Fujita-san’s old Tanaka case and as bad luck would have it, also related to an Osaka smuggling ring leader Kato who kidnapped a certain Yagi Hide… an old acquaintance of his from Kyoto.”

“Yagi Hide?” He frowns, sighs and then mutters, “That’s probably…

“Yes chief?”

“Ah no matter. I thought I’d heard of the name before.” He nods his head slowly, “He called her an old friend of his who now buys his cigarettes.”

“What?”

“Ah shit. What is he doing just going in there all by himself. Even with my men on the way, they may not reach him in time.” The Chief looks up towards the clock, “It’s been 3 hours since the ships left and will take another 3 even with our fastest ones.”

I can only nod my head. “That’s why I wanted this Yokohoma operation over with sir. No offense to our Oniwabanshu support but time was of the essence.”

“Well knowing Fujita he likely won’t make a move until closer to midnight but the issue is that my men will get there without much direction and if he’s on land, it will take time to find him.”

“Well if he’s secured the precinct then that’s likely where he’ll be.”

“Maybe… But if he asked for sea support then that means he expects the perpetrators to escape via the sea route.”

“So I need to go now sir! Is the ship that is waiting out there faster than the others?”

“Only slightly, the forward party will probably get there before you.”

“Then I should leave -now-.”

“Wait Shindou!” He stops me and pulls out a map. “You’re not used to maritime operations and I can’t go with you. The least we should do is look at this map.”

I sigh. Really? A lesson now? But I don’t argue with him. It will just take longer.

“Look at the Shizuoka coastline, this is where a landing party should be stationed all along this coast. However more than likely we’re dealing with more than just one ship, if they’ve made this town their base, there are likely other ships hiding in the various inlets. Like this one island right here that has three exit routes.”

I shake my head, “We only need an exhaustive landing party to secure the shoreline. If we do the same thing like we did just now in the raid and overwhelm them with numbers, there’d be no need for escape routes.”

“No!” He sighs, “He said no one is to escape remember? Even if you were right and the majority are caught in the town itself, if all of the ships get away with their cargo it will just go back in circulation and we also lose a lot of evidence.”

He looks at me, “No heroics. -My- men need -your- help since I won’t be there. Once they see Fujita then he can take over but until then I need you to send them the message. Split into 4, 3 ships to block the inlet and 1 ship to dock to shore. Can I trust you with this?”

I look to the side… I suppose once I give the message to his maritime captain and the ship I’m on docks to shore. “Fine. I should leave then sir.”

“Good. Good. I’ll take care of everything here.” He assures me, “But I still can’t believe it’s our own men who took that town hostage.”

I just look at him. I -can- believe it. I just hope one of us can put a stop to it. Well Fujita-san probably can. But I… I still can’t pull the damn trigger.

(OOC: Shindou is leaving Adachi’s office to go to the boat that’s waiting for him. Misao can come or not. Misao can also have heard the conversation or not. Not much action on the boat anyway as they don’t come into play until after the precinct scene after midnight.)

Okon-san just arrived – she’s so good with the women, and her and Emiko-san have really hit it off already. I need to let the Chief know that I have a very trusty person here to assist with clean-up. As I approach the area him and Shindou-san went off to, I hear the end

No heroics. -My- men need -your- help since I won’t be there. Once they see Fujita then he can take over but until then I need you to send them the message. Split into 4, 3 ships to block the inlet and 1 ship to dock to shore. Can I trust you with this?

I hold back as the conversation seems to be wrapping up, and I approach them. “One of my associates, who worked with women in this situation in the Tanaka ring, has arrived to help.” And if Aoshi-sama is around – well, what is he doing? I’m certain he’s -around-. “So I’ll be going with you on the ships, Shindou-san.”

I look at the map he has out, and the indication of the ships on them. It’s pretty good information. The Oniwaban maps I’ve memorized match it for the most part. Due to a lack of caves or secluded coves it’s not been a hotbed of smuggling until now – after all, they have the police in their hand.

There’s still something… hesitant about Shindou-san. But I doubt he’d air anything around the Captain.

A younger cop runs in. “Sir! Sir!” He’s waving a paper. “We just got a ummm… delivery.” He catches his breath but doesn’t wait to be acknowledged. “A man just dropped off… another man? And this note? Apparently he’s the one who makes the drugs for the group we’re busting!”

“Who dropped him off?” I ask, but I know already. From the paper I can see the precise writing that could only belong to Aoshi-sama. So -that’s- what he’s been doing. But the young cop doesn’t answer my question, instead, gawking at me as he hands the note to his superior.

(OOC – the note from Aoshi outlines who he captured and the location of his ‘factory’, as well as how to access it as Aoshi booby-trapped the obvious entrances to prevent any uncaptured gang members from having access to the stash.)

  2. Adachi:
Can I trust this “youth”? The younger they are, the more unpredictable they come. I thought he was rather unpredictable, but he’s managed to find someone even more so! But I have to. We have to trust that the people we work with even if we don’t belong to the same place… We all work for one common cause.

He agrees and I smile and pat his back, “I’m counting on you.” I tell the young man. It’s then that another young friend enter, our friend the kunoichi.

“Ah just in time! Kunoichi-chan. Shindou here was just about to leave for Shizuoka.” I say and see her eyeing the maps carefully. Good good. Maybe this one can ensure the other doesn’t step out of line.

“I was just telling Shindou-kun that our forward party, the majority of the fleet is now half-way to Shizuoka. There’s a boat waiting for -both- of you which will get there probably a little less than an hour after the forward party.”

“Chief. WHat do you mean -both- of us?” Shindou interjects.

“She’s your partner.” I tell him, “She’s going.”

    “This is police business.”

“And the one prior to this wasn’t? Fujita gave you orders you followed it.” I lower my head a little and look at him, “This time it’s my orders that she go with you. Is permitted to go with you and act as your second.”

He groans audibly but is interrupted when one of my men…

“A man just dropped off… another man? And this note? Apparently he’s the one who makes the drugs for the group we’re busting!”

A man? Ah it must be -that- one. I take the note and kunoichi-chan tries to question him. Of course he wouldn’t have an answer. I mean look at him, all frazzled because he got a note. He’s a rookie. Needs more training.

“Ah… It looks like we had some help but now the Yokohama police have to do clean up.” I pocket the note, “You two get going. No time like the present!”

Then I turn to my rookie, “You, I need you to telegram an urgent message to the TMPD. Address it to his Highness.”

    “Sir?”

“Ah I mean the great “Daikeishi” or whoever the hell can get to him!” If it’s true Kawaji is still traveling, then maybe that other unpredictable underling of his can get to his highness…

(OOC: Misao can reply if she wants as a closer or you can consider this thread closed. Adachi composes a message to the TMPD and then goes off to where the factory is to clean up after Aoshi.)
