At the Yagi House

The telegram came after lunch.

It had been a few good days – the chaos returned as the children did, but Tamesaburou seemed really relaxed – it was nice, I think, for him to not be Yagi Tamesaburou of THE Yagi family of Mibu…

But then the telegram came.

How does she go -missing-?

Hanako-san hustles the children away upstairs with the promise of some famous game of her sisters’ invention.

“Saitou-san is I’m certain seeing to Makoto-chan and Ai-chan – his niece lives there and she’s a capable young lady, and Hide-neesan said that his oldest son, the one he adopted, lives nearby and is very reliable. No doubt he’s arranged it all.

My brother is quiet for a long time. “We… we have to do what we do best. Leverage our resouces here. I’ll go speak to Shimada-san – both for his protection and for his “contacts”. Then I’ll start research – those who could wish oneesan or Saitou-san ill – I keep a list and we can start there. You go see your friend Asuka-san.”

He closes his eyes. “Oh course, she could still be in Tokyo, or somewhere else entirely. It could have nothing to do with the Shinsengumi or Kyoto or even Saitou-san. But…”

“We have to do something so we don’t go mad,” I finish for him, grimly.

She wasn’t at work today… I left a note, telling her what I knew, and to come see me. Maybe he contacted her, too, and she’s already at work on this… but where to even start. Tokyo?
