A telegram?  From the police?  My, my Hide-neesan is busy these days…  I read it over.  Thankfully I have nothing pressing today, and I know what I want to see in the “library”.  Too bad Yuubo is stuck at school, but I have a lead on this.
I pull the locked box out of its hiding place.  There’s a document in code that intrigued me, and now even more.  “Okubo” is scribbled at the top, and I know that I spotted Kano’s name on there before, but I thought the information we found would be sufficient – that man was a trouble-maker and dangerous.  And a traitor.
I puzzle over the coded language but it’s meaningless to me.  I’ll have to try… Suddenly, the door bursts open and it’s my dear wife!  “I need you to occupy Sachiko-chan.  The older two are fine and the baby is fine, but this one won’t leave me alone.”  My seven-year-old daughter stands by the door, looking frazzled.  “Well I was about to go over to the temple to see an old friend, so she might as well come along.  After all, he loves children.

    The answer though is disturbing. The same man Kano huh? But what concerns me is Fujita-san’s ties to Kondou Isami, the Shinsengumi Commander who hid himself as Okubo Yamato. The Interiors Archives did have that, accusing Kondou Isami as hiding his identity while trying to escape capture and held guilty for the assassination of an Imperial Patriot Ryoma Sakamoto, now treated as a God of the Meiji revolution.
    Fujita-san… This isn’t some sort of revenge plot on your end is it? Revenge has been outlawed since the Dawn of the Meiji.
    Or are you just protecting what you have now, like your mistress and your children?

    In any case, I decide to send this information right away to the Superintendent, along with the information of a possible Yakuza attack in 2 weeks. They have been gathering reinforcements to take back Yoshiwara.
    I’ll have to watch him more closely now. No way one man can handle all of this on his own.
