To My Dearest Makoto…

*Letter*
How are you little one? It’s been quite a long time… How is the rock collecting? Perhaps when I get back we’ll have to do something about the rocks ne? You can tell me some stories. I’m not much with words so I’ll borrow a few words from “The Mills Brothers”. I don’t know who they are so don’t ask since only a “friend” could explain these things. It’s better you do not speak to her actually. Be a good girl while I’m gone.
You’re the end of the rainbow, my pot of gold.
You’re daddy’s little girl to have and hold.
A precious gem is what you are.
You’re mommy’s bright and shining star.
You’re the spirit of Christmas, my star on the tree.
You’re the Easter bunny to mommy and me.
You’re sugar, you’re spice, you’re everything nice.
And you’re daddy’s little girl.

  1. Dear Chichi,
I am very good but I miss you a lot. How are you? Okaasan said we’ll be in Tokyo soon in a little house. Is the yard big enough for us to play Night and Day? Is there a place in Tokyo we can go see turtles? Some of the best rocks I’ve found are where we go to see turtles.
Thank you for the song. I really like mine! Will you sing it to me like you do for Okaasan?
I don’t know any songs for you, but I found this rock by the pond at the onsen. You can keep it on your desk at work.

I am sending a kiss in this letter, too.
    Your little girl,
    Makoto

  2. I miss you dearly little one. Yes before I go back to work we’ll be moving to a little house but I do not think the yard is big enough for playing catch. Did I tell you that a long time ago, I lived there with your mother? And yes I shall take you to the zoo but I doubt there’ll be rocks there. Would you like to come to Akashi with me instead? Akashi used to be my home, there is a big river that flows through it called Tamagawa. I shall tell you stories of the great men who hailed from Tama.
I will sing for you but only after you catch a big fish. I used to go fishing with my father, so we must do that. There is so many things I would like to do with you before I’m called off to work.
The rock is small but you picked a good one. It is smooth and small enough to put in my pocket. I do not usually stay at my desk, so this is better.
Thank you for the kiss. I send one and a few dozen more, back.
    Yours,
    Chichi
