Monday Afternoon Repairs and Eavesdropping

“How did these get torn?” Yuri-san frowns at the cushions, and sighs.
“They were ripped open, by the looks of it.” We both jump – I didn’t know that Midori-san was here? Midori-san looks down at me (she’s tall!). “But just the threads, the fabric is fine. It could have been worse.”
“And who would do that?” asks Yuri-san, but they both -look- at each other, and then Midori-san shrugs and Yuri-san takes the cushions. “Ah, well, no worries, Makoto-chan. Since you pinned them up so nicely it will only take me a minute on the machine.” She smiles at me and goes back to the machine. “Sit over here, okay?”
I get a paper of out of my satchel, and I start drawing the treehouse.
Whirr whirr goes the machine. I’m coloring the green leaves and I hear the big girls talking! I listen very carefully!
“Are you going to tell Yamaji-sensei?”
“What else can she do to her? She’s already been punished for the dojo incident, and she’s been caught trying to talk to her during kyudo practice.”
“Nobody likes… what happened. But she’s just a -child-. To take it out on Makoto-chan -“
Midori-san is quiet, and then, “well, if she was expelled, where would she go? She’d probably hide out in the dorm attic rather than go back…”
I hear Yuri-san laugh. “Oh dear. Still being stubborn?”
I don’t hear what Midori-san says next. What happened? Why is it about me? And who isn’t talking to who? Arg. Big girls are almost as bad as grown-ups!
Oooh! The machine stopped! I go back to coloring. Then Yuri-san is there, with the cushions, all fixed up, and hahaue’s pins neatly folded into a piece of paper.
“Midori-chan, all done – and take these straight home this time, okay? And no need to mention this to the teachers.” She looks back over at Midori-san, who looks away.
I take my cushions and go carefully to the gate. Yukiko-san is already waiting for me. I smile at her. Niisan must be on his way to work. Time for me to go home!
(OOC – close, unless someone has business with Makoto or Yukiko)
