Backed to a Corner

eiji-2“Oh man. Kaoru and Kenshin is off to who knows where and left me with fetching Kenji.”
I only smile as Yahiko complains.
“They probably just need some time together.” I remind Yahiko.
“Hey why don’t you walk with me to the school? I honestly don’t remember how to get there.”
“Well…”
“Come on man! I’ll be in big trouble if I don’t get Kenji on time!”
I haven’t even given him an answer and he’s already pulled me out of the Akebeko. Yahiko-kun can be quite pushy and persistent but that’s something to admire about him. I guess I’ll just try to steer clear of Yagi-san or whoever is getting the children this Friday afternoon.
“So tell me Eiji-kun,” He grins at me, “Who was that lady who came last week?”

  1. Oh. Isn’t that Eiji-nii? What is he doing here?
I gather up my things -quickly-, making sure that I had the extra change of clothes I took with me this morning from the house. I must catch up to him so I ran down the stairs.
“Hey watch where you’re going Fujita-kun!”
“Ah sorry sensei!” I wave at him.
“Make sure you get some rest okay! The tournament is next week!”
I just wave my shinai at him and bolt out the door.
“Eiji-nii-san!” Calling out I run to his side. I grin slightly. He doesn’t know I’m staying with him!
He smiles a little and looks around.
    “Hey nii-chan!” I remind him I’m -here-.
    “Where’s your pick up?”
“I mostly walk home from school now.” I tell him, “I’ve been having to stay late to practice for a tournament.”
“Oh.” He looks at me with that throughful look of his.
“Hey Eiji-nii-san, what are you doing here?” I ask. Did he read my mind? If he did he’s a good brother even if we fought the other week about -him-.
“I came with a friend.” He looks down at me. “He didn’t know the way to here so he asked me to come.”
“Oh?” I want to meet this friend.
“There he is.” He turns to me, “Now why don’t you go on home?”
“No. I’m not going home today.”
    “What do you mean Tomu?”
    “I’m going home with you!”
“Don’t tell me you’re running away again.” He sighs.
“No…” I hand him my bag, “I told -her-. She -agreed- to it.”
“Really? So how long will you be staying?”
    “Hmm it depends.”
Then his friend comes over with a kid. I seem to remember this kid? He was always hanging around Makoto-chan. But I have more important things to ask my brother.
“Nii-san. I need a job.” I tell him seriously, “Can you help me?”
Eiji-nii gives me a wry look. What now? I thought this would be easy for someone like him.

  2. I’m at the gate to meet Makoto when I see Tsutomu-kun -run- past… to Eiji-san? How did he know to be here? Then I see Yahiko-san… oh, he’s here for Kenji-kun.
    “Where’s Tsutomu-niisan going?” asks Makoto.
“He’s going to go stay with Eiji-san tonight.”
    “Awww! I want to too!”
I tweak her nose. “Boys night, sorry little one.” She still makes noises of complaint until I remind her that we are -very- capable of having fun as well.
I give a wave over to Eiji-san and the others – hopefully this will let Eiji-san know that this visit is sanctioned, and I won’t need to go over there. Yahiko-san seemed too interested in our conversation last week.
(OOC – Hide exits to home unless stopped)

  3. I hold Kenji’s hand in mine, as we approach Eiji and a boy. He has a tendency to run off.
    Nii-san I need a job
Whoa!!! Another secret relative? I can’t help but grin slightly. All of a sudden this orphan friend of mine doesn’t seem like much of an “orphan”.
“The job for boys like you is to do well in school Tomu.” He reminds him.
“But nii-san it will only be for a while.” He insist. “I just owe some money to Kinosuke and I need money for this summer.”
I smile at that. I remember when I was that age, or even younger I took my first job at the Akebeko.
“Hey we have an opening in the Akebeko. We need help in the afternoons!” I shout.
Eiji shoots me a disdainful look and vigorously shakes his head. I shrug and come over. “Come on “Nii-san”, don’t you see the kid has responsibilities?”
I look down at the boy “So Tomu-kun, I can introduce you to the owner tomorrow.”
“Yes!” The boy eagerly agrees. I look at him and smile, he has such wild hair but that determined look on his face earlier reminded me of Saitou. But I’m not about to discriminate against a boy who is trying to be responsible and be a man!
Eiji gives widens his eyes as if trying to stop me. But he knows he can’t and I also know too many things now, so he definitely can’t go against Tomu-kun and I.
(OOC: Hide can choose what parts of the conversation to hear or not or to notice Eiji is trying to say no. If nothing happens they will leave the school as well)

  4. “So Tomu-kun, tell me a little bit about yourself.” I grin as we walk out of the school. “Consider it a preliminary interview.”
I can hear Eiji groan but I pay it no mind.
“My family is from Aizu. We are closely related to Matsudaira-sama and Teru-hime.” the young lad answers.
“Very interesting…” I grin at him, “Go on.”
    (OOC: Exit the boys)
