(2nd week of June)
I SEE WORKERS BY THE BIG TREE.
They’re grown-up men but that’s okay. It’s not a secret base until kids say so. But Tsutomu-niisan is staying late at school every day for his kendo practice. I can’t wait for the tournament so we can cheer him on! But it means that he’s just home for dinner and then he studies and poof, time for sleep.
I can’t ask him about things at all.
I leave a note for my brother:
Dear Tsutomu-niisan
I am working on my kanji, see? Now that I can write better, can you help me write one a letter to Tsuyoshi-niisan? I never said thank you for the ake – aka – the cow toy. I am also working on a surprise for the secret base.
-Makoto
I leave it on his pillow with two yams that I traded for at school. I got three but I had to eat one.
(OOC – Exit Makoto)
(OOC 2 – Makoto reverts to hiragana on occassions – she still has work to do, lol)

Tsutomu:
It’s late and I’m tired so I head straight to my room to flop down on the futon.
Oh yams! I eat them and read the letter.
Hmm. She needs to -work- practicing her kanji.
I write back but leave it on the table. I’m sure she’ll find it. It’s still a few days away.
“Saturday mornings I can help you write a letter. I’ll be sure to get it to him too.
Don’t go near the treehouse while it’s being constructed. It’s not safe.
– Tsutomu”
