?EURoeDoes it only make English letters??EUR?
“Well young lady, this one does but we use it more than just for English.” I look back at Seki, hopefully she can get this document finished soon so we can send it to France whose experts are still guiding us on how to run this school. Seki herself was hired mostly due to her proficiency in French, an asset she acquired from her husband.
I guide the child upstairs to the spare room overlooking the courtyard and point out the wooden desk where she is to sit. “There are three parts to this test, mathematics, language and comprehension. I suggest you start first with what you are good at.”
I watch for a moment as the child looks over the papers. I am curious at how well Yagi-san knows her child.

“Oh like Italian or German?” Yuunosuke, read to me in those languages, they sound strange, one was funny like singing and the other very hard sounding. I bet that Yuunosuke knows about these machines.
I sit at the desk. There’s papers already there.
>>There are three parts to this test, mathematics, language and comprehension. I suggest you start first with what you are good at.
“Language, please sir.” I say. I thought he wanted to talk to me too. But now I can show him that I liked school! I like stories but math was fun too.
(OOC: Yagi + Yuunosuke may or may not ring any bells with Takimi)
I nod. “Seki-san was typing in French however. Those languages uses the Roman letters unlike our Kanji that has it’s origin from the Chinese.”
I give her the language exam first, 20 questions on grammar, 20 Kanji recognition, identification of all the Kana syllables and finally identification of animals in English and the complete alphabet. I doubt she’ll get them all but this will be a good indication of how well she can catch up to the rest.
Seki comes and hands me the papers that Yagi-san filled out earlier.
“Himura-san is waiting downstairs for her son.”
“Already?” I ask and look at my watch. There’s still 30 minutes left before school is out and detention is over. “Please tell her to wait until 3PM.”
“But Takimi-san…”
“Himura-san knows she’s a little early. Besides if I were to let him go, the rest will want to go to.”
“Alright…”
I close the door behind Seki and look over the form. Now what did her mother put on here… They’ve been working on the Kana, that’s -good-, some Math too. Not much on comprehension however… Then it struck me, she forgot to fill out one spot.
“Makoto. What’s your father’s name?” I can just fill that up for her myself instead of going back down there.
(OOC: Seki exits. Yuunosuke was never mentioned out loud so Takimi wouldn’t have a clue. 😛 )
“French! My uncle Yuunosuke talked in that too!” It was sing-song, too. I still like Japanese best.
The test is fun. I don’t know them all but I try. The lady comes in and they talk about other people. I wonder why someone gets to leave early?
>>Makoto. What?EUR(TM)s your father?EUR(TM)s name?
Oh. This is just like Ito. “I don’t know,” I look down. Besides, I only known “Chichi”, and that Okaasan calls him “Hajime”. I wish it didn’t have to be secret. I’m very happy he’s my father. Thinking that makes me feel a little better, even if it’s all a secret.
(OOC: haha, I deleted one part and not the other! I suck! I am STABBED! XD)
?EURoeFrench! My uncle Yuunosuke talked in that too!?EUR?
For some strange reason I seem to remember one of our faculty hire a consultant with that name. A polyglot is what they call him… But I’m not entirely sure and certainly there are a lot of Yuunosuke’s in Japan.
?EURoeI don?EUR(TM)t know,?EUR?
The child looks down as she answers. I am perplexed by that action, usually it means… But she seems more sad however so I do not pursue the matter. Perhaps that is why Fujita-san is so protective of this mother and child? Since he is a relative then he knows that the father abandoned them. Such a tragedy but it seems to be happening more these days.
“Makoto, don’t tarry too long in one section. You only have 20 minutes left. There’s still two more sections to go through.” It’s better I prod her to focus, otherwise she might not pass this test.
He doesn’t ask me anymore about Chichi. That’s good.
I don’t like to lie.
But I’m here for testing! I go back to that. I want Chichi to know that I did my best!
We sit in silence for the rest of the exam. I’m still looking over the form her mother provided. I can say at least that even if she only did a quarter of her first year in school, the mother has continued to home-school the child. I look at my watch and realize some time has passed. Soon school will be over but before that I have to go down the hall and visit the detention room. Kikuhiro is probably eager to dismiss his special class.
“Makoto I’ll be back in ten minutes. When I come back please have your exam materials ready so I can grade them.”
(OOC: Takimi is now out of the room, further down the hall. He will return once Makoto finishes)
>>Makoto I?EUR(TM)ll be back in ten minutes. When I come back please have your exam materials ready so I can grade them
I work on my test, and I finish all of the questions! I hope I did alright on the math. I then stack everything up. Teachers like things -neat-, I know from my last school.
I think about Isuzu-chan. I will ask Okaa-san if I can write her. After all she sent me a present in the box with our things.
I look out the window. Are the kids going to be nice here?
Now that I’ve finished attending to that little boy, I go back and find that Makoto is all done with her test. Before entering I look around to see if anything has been disturbed and it looks like she did stay in her seat for the rest of the exam. That’s good.
“There’s a lot of children your age here.” I say and take the papers, “But there are also a lot of older students.”
Actually she can see that for herself as suddenly there are noises coming from the courtyard as the elementary school children finally comes out of the building running. We have many active children here. Some are too active unfortunately. I frown slightly at that.
Quietly I sit down and start marking her test papers. It takes me a few minutes to finish… I sigh. Well I suppose I shall need to talk to Yagi-san before they leave.
“Come Makoto. Your okaasan is waiting outside.”
(OOC: Takimi is going downstairs and will talk to Hide once Kaoru leaves)
>>There?EUR(TM)s a lot of children your age here
That’s good. I bet it would be rude, though, to ask him if they’re -nice-. I watch them coming outside, even the girls are running around. That’s really good!
I wait and wait and WAIT as he looks at my papers. Is he frowning??
>>Come Makoto. Your okaasan is waiting outside.
I’m glad this is over. I hope I made it to the school. That will make Chichi happy.
