okita first bronze

HistoryLast month sculptor Eri Toshiaki along with the the Ryozen History Museum in Kyoto city Higashiyama ward Sekan-ji Temple unveiled Okita's first bronze statue. It stands to around 90 centimeters in height and 60 kilos in weight. On the back of his haori coat is the character "Makoto". He is standing calmly with the sword held in both hands on the ground between his feet which is parted by the length of his shoulders. It is said that the project was done because up to now there is still no existing picture of Okita Souji. They had used all reference documents available plus added what was commonly thought of Okita, such as his charm when laughing and often playing. Plus his appearance due to the Ikedaya event although there were many heroic episodes. These are the factors that Eri Toshiaki included for Okita's first bronze statue. The project was supervised by Kimura Sachihiko, the section manager of the liberal arts (art/science) of the Museum.

Okita's bronze statue will be exhibited from the 18th of November to the 25th. It will be under special exhibition "Ryoma and Saigo".

Now I mentioned bronze statue... But does anyone know if this is Okita's first statue? The translation I have of the article seems to indicate his first but I'm hesitant. Anyone know of any existing statues for Okita? Aside from fan made ones of course or commercial ones! Laughing
