Well this is a little late but while everyone is still waiting for Hakuouki to come out, last June Square Enix Comics under Young Gangan released a new manga about the Shinsengumi. The title is Shinsengumi Jingishou Asagi and it was released in book form last June. The story is by Yamamura Tatsuya while the artist is Ninagawa Yaeko. It's more of historical fiction and apparently the art illustration is -really- good.
