Saitou Hajime
This section is the crowning jewel of my collection. Over the past years I am still in awe at how this section grew considering his cels are relatively rare and most of the time expensive. Saitou Hajime is a character from Rurouni Kenshin known also by the name Fujita Goro. He was a Meiji cop in the series but prior to that he was Captain of the Third Troop of the Shinsengumi, the mortal enemy of the Battousai Kenshin Himura. Saitou was initially based from the real man of the same names. His name before taking on Saitou was Yamaguchi Hajime and during the Boshin War he changed his name to Yamaguchi Jirou after the Bakufu lost and he was taken as a POW he changed his name again to Ichinose Denpachi. Finally in Aomori he changed his name permanently to Fujita Goro as shown by the marriage record to his first wife Shinoda Yaso. There are many versions of Saitou that I've seen and Rurouni Kenshin is my favorite aside from the movie Mibugishiden. Make no mistake though Watsuki himself created a character that he adapted heavily into Rurouni Kenshin. Saitou in RK stands by his own, with his own characterization and beliefs, which may or may not be the same as other versions of him whether in film, drama or history. RK is my favorite. |

Trust and Betrayal
The OVA is where I got hooked. Consisting of 4 episodes, it tells us of Kenshin's background during the Bakumatsu. The OVA is a more serious tone compared to the TV version but rightly so as it was a time of survival. Here is where I also got introduced to my favorite group of Samurai called the Shinsengumi. Tsuiokohen is one of the highest (if not the highest) rated anime of all time. |
